This quote was taken from an interview with Thomas Demand in the book Image Makers, Image Takers: Interviews With Today’s Leading Curators, Editors and Photographers, Anne-Celine Jaeger.
There is a scene in the Bernardo Bertolucci film, Little Buddha, where Lama Norbu (played by Ying Ruocheng), sitting on the second story balcony of a house overlooking the Boudhanath stupa says, “You see these people? All of us and all the people alive in the world today…a hundred years from now we’ll all be dead.” It’s a simple, but powerful and effective way of explaining impermanence. The scene comes to my mind often. Putting this together with the Demand quote makes the advise to pursue your passions all the more compelling.
